Polar Bears Pick Up Key Series Opening Win at Bates

LEWISTON, Maine – The Bowdoin baseball team kept its postseason hopes alive with a 7-4 win at Bates on Friday afternoon.
 
The Polar Bears (14-12, 3-7 NESCAC) never trailed in their NESCAC matchup with Bates (16-13, 1-9 NESCAC).
 
Game Highlights
  • The Polar Bears broke through in the top of the third off an RBI groundout by Ben McKenzie. Bates evened the game at 1-1 in the bottom half of the inning.
  • Bowdoin exploded for five runs in the fifth inning to jump out to a 6-1 lead and never looked back.
  • Kevin Murray plated the inning's first runs off a double down the left field line. Gabe Peckler followed up with an RBI single to right.
  • Luke Chessie kept the hit streak going with a single to left that plated Murray from third. CJ Brito-Trinidad added another RBI single through the left side. Liam Foley singled to left to round out the sixth inning scoring.
  • Brito-Trinidad plated Bowdoin's seventh and final run of the game with an RBI single up the middle in the eighth.
  • Bates added three more runs in the final inning off a three-run blast to left center.
 
By the Numbers
  • Kevin Murray led the team going 3-for-4 at the plate. Stephen Simoes and Brito-Trinidad both had multiple hits as well.
  • Jason Bogdanos pitched eight innings with seven hits allowing three strikeouts. Jack Olcott pitched the final inning.
  • Bowdoin combined for 13 hits and stranded seven base runners.
  • Murray and Chris Dirks both recorded extra-base hits.
