Mules Earn Series Sweep Over Bowdoin Baseball on Saturday

WATERVILLE, Maine – The Bowdoin baseball team suffered a series sweep after Colby won both games in Saturday's twin bill by 4-0 and 9-5 margins.
 
The Polar Bears sit at .500 on the season with a 12-12 record. Bowdoin falls to 2-7 in NESCAC play. The Mules climb to 20-7 with a 5-3 record in conference action.
 
Game One Highlights
  • The Mules jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first inning. Two RBI singles and an RBI double put the hosts on top.
  • Colby made it 4-0 with another RBI single in the third.
  • Bowdoin stranded ten runners on base through seven innings of play.
  • Kevin Murray went 2-for-4 and Chris Dirks was 2-for-2.
  • Murray, Dirks, and Nick Merrill all had doubles. Dirks also hit a triple.
  • Jack Mullen pitched a complete game with seven hits allowed and two strikeouts. Three of Colby's four runs were earned.
 
Game Two Highlights
  • Colby exploded for four runs in the third, but Bowdoin responded with two runs in the top of the fourth as Richie McNamara tagged a two-run single.
  • Liam Foley added a bases-loaded RBI groundout in the fifth to pull Bowdoin within one.
  • Colby reextended its lead in the bottom of the inning with a pair of runs.
  • Murray tagged a solo homer in the seventh, but Colby added another run of their own in the bottom of the inning.
  • The Mules plated two more runs in the eighth and Liam Foley drove in Bowdoin's final run of the game in the ninth.
  • Murray went 5-for-5 with an RBI, a double, and a homer. Aidan Carey also tagged a double.
  • Bowdoin's four pitchers combined to allow nine runs off eight hits with two strikeouts.
