Softball Remains at .500 With Middlebury Doubleheader Split

BRUNSWICK, Maine – The Bowdoin softball team forced a doubleheader split against Middlebury after dropping a close 3-2 decision in game one and roaring back with a 9-1 win in game two.
 
The Polar Bears remain at .500 with an 11-11 (4-4 NESCAC) record. The Panthers are 10-6 with a 2-2 mark in NESCAC play.
 
Game One Highlights
  • Bowdoin took an early lead in the bottom of the first. Katryna Dukehart blasted a double to left that drove in Angelina Mayers for the 1-0 lead.
  • The Panthers found an equalizer in the top of the fourth. With runners on second and third, Tori Papaleo sent a long fly ball to center. Mayers made the catch in the outfield, but McKenna Lont tagged up on third and beat the throw home. Dukehart turned a double play by throwing out the runner at third.
  • With the bases loaded in the fifth, Lont put the ball on the ground in the infield and Bowdoin couldn't make the play to home in time. Cece Ziegler scored to give Middlebury a 2-1 lead.
  • The bases remained loaded for an RBI groundout by Megan Fox to make it 3-1.
  • Mayers drove a solo homer over the right field fence in the sixth, but Bowdoin could not find an equalizing run.
  • Mayers, Dukerhart, Chloe Garcia, and Shea Sullivan all had a hit in the game.
  • Ava Biasotti pitched four innings and allowed three hits and three strikeouts. Abby Allen pitched a pair of innings with three hits. Maddie Current pitched the final inning.
 
Game Two Highlights
  • Bowdoin's bats came alive in game two. The Polar Bears jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first. With a pair of runners on, Dukehart doubled to left and cleared the bases. Garcia followed up with a double to left that plated Dukehart.
  • JK Bradley recorded her first RBI of the day in the second, singling to the pitcher and driving in Kyla Gary.
  • The Panthers broke through in the third to make it 6-1. Zeigler chopped the ball to second with the bases loaded to push the runner home.
  • Lilly Armstrong tagged a long double to right in the bottom half of the inning that drove in Gary. Bradley had her second RBI of the day with a single to right left that brought Armstrong around from second.
  • Kiera Dent provided the pivotal ninth run in the fourth, sending a sacrifice fly to right that allowed Dukehart to score.
  • Middlebury could not find a run in the top of the fifth to extend the game.
  • Anna Halliday went the distance in the circle with two strikeouts, three hits, and one earned run.
  • Armstrong went 3-for-3 with a double. Bradley was 2-for-3 with two RBI. Dukehart also drove in two runs.
  • Mayers and Gary each added a stolen base.
