Baseball Suffers Series Sweep at Tufts

MEDFORD, Mass. – The Bowdoin baseball team suffered a series sweep at Tufts on Saturday afternoon.
 
The Polar Bears (12-9, 2-4 NESCAC) lost a tight 4-3 decision in Saturday's opener and dropped a 10-6 game two to the Jumbos (16-6, 5-0 NESCAC).
 
Game One Highlights
  • Tufts scored a run in both the first and second innings to take a 2-0 lead.
  • Kevin Murray put the Polar Bears ahead in the third with a three-run homer to right center.
  • A solo homer in the fourth tied the game at 3-3 and a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the ninth gave the hosts a walk off victory.
  • Ben McKenzie, Stephen Simoes, Murray, Lule Chessie, and Liam Foley all had a hit in the game.
  • CJ Brito-Trinidad was left on base five times.
  • Jack Mullen pitched six innings and allowed five hits. Jack Olcott suffered the loss with two hits allowed and one earned run.
 
Game Two Highlights
  • The Jumbos went up 1-0 in the first, but Chessie evened the game with a solo homer in the second.
  • Tufts answered with a run in the second and three more in the third. The Jumbos continued to produce runs with four more in the fourth and another in the fifth.
  • Trailing 10-1, Bowdoin scored five runs in the fifth inning. Brito-Trinidad got the inning started with a run off a pitching error. Richie McNamara added andRBI single and Foley drew a bases loaded walk. The bases remained loaded for McKenzie's single to right center that drove in one and a fielder's choice that allowed another to score.
  • Chessie went 2-foe-3 at the plate and Chris Dirks was 3-for-3.
