Baseball Stumbles in Series Opener at Tufts

MEDFORD, Mass. – The Bowdoin baseball team fell 8-5 to Tufts in the series opener on Friday afternoon.
 
The Polar Bears (12-7, 2-2 NESCAC) surrendered five runs in the second inning and could not recover to topple the Jumbos (15-6, 4-0 NESCAC).
 
Game Highlights
  • Stephen Simoes put Bowdoin ahead in the top of the first with a solo homerun to right field.
  • The Jumbos scored five runs in the second inning. A pair of RBI singles and an RBI double accounted for three of the runs. A double steal at second and home allowed the fourth run and an error allowed the fifth.
  • Tufts made it 6-1 in the third with an RBI single and pushed the lead even further with a solo homerun in the fourth.
  • One swing of the bat from Gabe Peckler in the sixth inning made it 7-4 as Peckler homered to right with a pair of runners on base.
  • Tufts scored its final run in the sixth inning off an RBI double.
  • Ben McKenzie had the Polar Bears' third homer of the game in the eighth, making it 8-5.
 
By the Numbers
  • Jason Bogdanos suffered the loss with 11 hits allowed and seven earned runs.
  • Connor Cassady pitched the final two innings and allowed two hits.
  • McKenzie and Kevin Murray both went 2-for-4 at the plate.
  • Luke Chessie had the team's only double, while the trio of Simoes, McKenzie, and Peckler tagged homers.
