Men's Lacrosse Sprints Past Colby in Wednesday Road Win

WATERVILLE, Maine – The Bowdoin College men's lacrosse team overwhelmed Colby on Wednesday night, matching their season high with 22 goals in a 22-16 victory. The 12th-ranked Polar Bears improve to 9-3 (5-3 NESCAC) with the win while the Mules drop to 2-8 (0-7 NESCAC).
 
Match Highlights
  • The game was tightly played in the early going, and Colby even held a slim 5-4 edge after one quarter of play, before the Polar Bears took command of the contest.
  • Bowdoin erupted for eight goals in the second quarter, quickly regaining the lead, and tallied five goals in the final 5:01 before halftime, including a Jason Lach goal that gave the visitors a 12-6 edge at the break.
  • The Polar Bears continued to roll in the third, scoring seven straight goals at one point to extend their lead to as many as 12 goals before a late Colby flurry made the final score respectable.
By The Numbers
  • Will Byrne set a career high, and finished one assist shy of the school's single-game record, with seven assists on the night to go with three goals.
  • Jason Lach matched his career high with a six-goal performance while Oliver Bernstein had two goals and two assists.
  • Ethan Barnard won 23 of 32 faceoffs in the win and scooped a team-best 15 ground balls.  
  • Nate Ryan had a team-high four caused turnovers, Zack Goorno had four ground balls and three assists, and Patrick Fitzgerald scored three times with five ground balls.
  • Robert Hobbs made nine saves in net for the Polar Bears, who went 2-4 with the extra man and held Colby scoreless in three attempts.
  • Bowdoin has scored 20+ goals in three straight games, totaling 64 goals on their current three-match win streak.
