Big Third Quarter Propels Men's Lacrosse To Win Over Wesleyan

BRUNSWICK, Maine – The Bowdoin College men's lacrosse team pulled away in the second half to defeat Wesleyan University, 14-8, on Saturday afternoon at Whittier Field. The Polar Bears improve to 5-2 (2-2 NESCAC) with the much-needed conference win while the Cardinals fall to 5-2 (2-1 NESCAC).
 
Game Highlights
  • Bowdoin seemed to be in control early as Patrick Fitzgerald scored three goals in the opening quarter to give the hosts a 5-2 first quarter edge.
  • Wesleyan stayed within striking distance, however, outscoring Bowdoin 4-2 in the second quarter to cut the lead to 7-6 at the break.
  • Bowdoin took complete command in the opening moments of the second half, however, scoring three goals in the first 51 seconds of the third quarter and never looking back.
  • Goals by Will Byrne, Ethan Barnard and Fitzgerald pushed the lead quickly to 10-6, and Bowdoin extended the lead to five goals, 12-7, by the end of the period, and Wesleyan would get no closer.

  • Patrick Fitzgerald led the way for Bowdoin, scoring five goals with five ground balls in the win.
  • Jason Lach added four scores, including two key second half tallies to put the game out of reach.
  • Ethan Barnard won 14 of 26 faceoffs and grabbed a team-best six ground balls while Zach Goorno and Benny Rakower added four apiece.
  • Noah Robb caused three turnovers and Robert Hobbs made eight saves in an impressive defensive effort for the Polar Bears.
