Men's Lacrosse Can't Complete Comeback in One-Goal Loss at Williams

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. – The Bowdoin College men's lacrosse team saw its three game winning streak snapped in a 12-11 loss to Williams on Saturday afternoon. The Polar Bears fall to 3-2 (1-2 NESCAC) while the Ephs improve to 3-1 (3-0 NESCAC).
 
Game Highlights
  • The Polar Bears, who trailed by as many as five goals in the second half, couldn't complete the comeback in the one-goal loss.
  • Tied at 3-3 after one quarter of play, Williams scored four unanswered goals in the second quarter to take a 7-3 edge at the break.
  • Williams pushed its lead to five goals, 9-4, at the 8:01 mark of the third quarter before Bowdoin mounted its comeback.
  • A 6-2 run by the Polar Bears over a span of 12:37 trimmed the Williams lead to 11-10 with 9:30 to go following a goal by Will Byrne.
  • Williams stemmed the tide with a goal at 7:33, only to see Jason Lach get it back for Bowdoin at 6:03, cutting the edge to 12-11.
  • Bowdoin had four possessions in the final six minutes to tie the game but couldn't find the equalizer.
By The Numbers
  • Bowdoin held a 48-35 edge in shots and dominated the faceoff dot, winning 24 of 27 faceoffs, but committed 20 turnovers in the loss.
  • Will Byrne and Jason Lach had three goals apiece while Ethan Barnard went 24-27 with 16 ground balls on faceoffs for Bowdoin.  
  • Aidan Philie had two caused turnovers and Zack Goorno had five ground balls defensively for Bowdoin while Robert Hobbs made 14 saves.
  • Williams goaltender Matthew Freitas made 24 stops to help lead the Ephs to the win.
