MIDDLETOWN, Conn. – The Bowdoin men's swimming & diving team posted nine school new records en route to an eighth-place finish at the 2023 NESCAC Championship.
Only 70 points separated the fifth through eighth-place teams. The Polar Bears finished with 807 points, 28 points back from Middlebury and well ahead of Hamilton in ninth.
Friday Meet Highlights
- Bowdoin's 200 free relay opened the evening session with a record-breaking performance. Jack Tran, Alex Grand'Pierre, Penn Lee, and Steve Ward went 1:21.15 to garner a bronze finish.
- Jack Tran broke the school record during the morning session in the 50 fly with a time of 22.01. Tran turned around and bested his own new record in the evening with a 21.72 and fourth place finish.
- Alex Grand'Pierre continued his breaststroke dominance with a new school and NESCAC record in the 50 breaststroke. Grand'Pierre became the conference champion with a time of 24.74.
- Brim Peabody qualified for the finals in the 100 fly and turned in a time of 4:02.58 to earn fourth, moving up from a seven seed after prelims.
- John McGowan swam to a seventh place finish in the 200 free with a time of 1:40.91.
- The 200 medley relay, comprised of Liam Roehr, Grand'Pierre, Tran, and Rhys Edwards, earned fifth with a time of 1:29.43.
- The 400 medley crew of Tran, Grand'Pierre, Ethan O'Connor, and Ward set a new program best to take fourth overall (3:17.72).
Saturday Meet Highlights
- The 200 medley relay, comprised of Liam Roehr, Grand'Pierre, Tran, and Rhys Edwards, earned fifth with a time of 1:29.43.
- Grand'Pierre made it two-for-two with a second NESCAC championship swim in the 100 yard breaststroke. The sophomore set a new school and pool record with a time of 53.66.
- Tran set another school record with a ninth place finish in the 100 backstroke (49.70).
Sunday Meet Highlights
- Grand'Pierre nabbed second place in the 200 breaststroke (1:58.88) and set his third school record of the meet.
- The Polar Bears closed out the meet with a sixth place relay result in the 400 free. Tran, Edwards, John McGowan, and Grand'Pierre combined for a 3:04.05.
