Last Minute Goal Results in 2-2 Overtime Tie Against Wesleyan

BRUNSWICK, Maine – The Bowdoin men's ice hockey team relinquished a last minute goal to settle for a 2-2 overtime tie against Wesleyan on Friday evening.
 
The Polar Bears sit at 11-7-3 (5-7-3 NESCAC), while the Cardinals are 13-5-3 (9-3-3 NESCAC).
 
Game Highlights
  • Six minutes into the game, Gabe Shipper wristed a clear shot off the crossbar following a cross-ice setup by Bobby Pearl.
  • The Cardinals took the 1-0 lead midway through the second period. Jake Lachance controlled the puck between the circles and slid a pass right to Colin Cobb. Cobb received and released quickly to Ethan Davidson on the far post for a one-timer.
  • Bowdoin found an equalizer with under two minutes remaining in the middle frame. Albert Washco carried into the zone and backhanded the puck to Jimmy Duffy on the near side. Duffy sent a cross-ice pass to Bobby Pearl who buried a shot barely inside the far post.
  • The Polar Bears took their first lead of the game at 9:53 in the third. Gabe Shipper passed the puck from the right side boards to Ethan Kimball in the middle. Kimball shifted the puck left to Joe Alexander. Alexander carried to the left post and backhanded a pass back to Kimball on the far side for a tally.
  • Wesleyan pulled their goalie with two minutes remaining and earned a six-on-four advantage following a Bowdoin penalty to close out regulation. The Cardinals won the faceoff on the left dot and Lachance had the puck on the near side point. Lachance passed to the far side where Emmet Powell waited. Powell sent the puck across net for Owen Sweet on the post for an equalizer.
  • Both goalies made stonewall saves in overtime to end the game at 2-2. Wiggle Kerbrat earned a one-on-goal with Kozic coming out of the crease to make a point-blank stop.
  • On the other end, Andy Stoneman tried to pull across the crease from right to left, but Erik Voloshin stayed with the play.

  • Bowdoin went 0-for-2 on the power play.
  • Wesleyan was 1-for-3 on the power play.
  • Kozic made 24 stops.
  • Voloshin made 32 saves.
