Men's Basketball Tames Pride, Takes Consolation Game at Naismith Classic

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – The Bowdoin College men's basketball team defeated host Springfield College 72-67 to capture third place at this weekend's Naismith Classic.
 
The Polar Bears improve to 6-7 on the season while the Pride fall to 3-7 overall.
 
Game Highlights
  • A tightly played first half saw Springfield grab a 37-33 lead at the break thanks to a last second three-pointer.
  • The Pride maintained a four-point lead as the game went under 13 minutes to play in the second half.
  • Bowdoin used a 10-0 run, sparked by a Michael Simonds three-pointer, to claim a lead they would never relinquish.
  • The Polar Bears led by as many as nine points, but Springfield clawed back to tie the game at 67-67 with 2:13 to go.
  • Bowdoin held Springfield scoreless for the rest of the contest and went 5-6 from the free throw line in the final minute to seal the win.

  • Michael Simonds led Bowdoin with a double-double, registering 19 points and ten rebounds on 6-9 shooting from the field.
  • James McGowan, who was named as Bowdoin's representative on the All-Tournament team, scored 16 points with four assists, including 4-7 from three-point range.
  • Kevin Reeves had ten points while Ben Chilson and Natrel Allen added nine points each.
  • Bowdoin held a 45-28 edge on the glass and notched 11 key second-chance points in the victory.
