GALLATIN, Tenn. – The Bowdoin College women's basketball team finished off a perfect weekend at the Music City Classic with a 81-67 win over the University of Chicago on Saturday afternoon.
The Polar Bears improve to 10-1 with the win while the Maroons fall to 7-4. The match-up was the first-ever between the programs and featured a clash of former Bowdoin players as head coaches;
Megan Phelps '15 for Bowdoin and Maria (Noucas) Williamson '09 for Chicago.
Game Highlights
- A high-scoring first half saw the Polar Bears hold a 45-41 lead thanks to 47% shooting in the opening twenty minutes, including a 6-13 effort from three-point range.
- The teams traded baskets throughout the second quarter with Chicago taking a late 41-40 lead with 1:17 to play.
- Bowdoin ended the half on a 5-0 run, getting a key three-pointer from Megan Tan to take their four-point halftime lead.
- A 9-2 Polar Bear run early in the third quarter extended Bowdoin's lead to nine points and another three-pointer from Megan Tan pushed the Polar Bear lead into double figures, 64-52, with 2:45 to go in the third.
- Bowdoin's defense took care of the rest, holding Chicago to just six points on 2-16 shooting in the fourth quarter.
- Callie Godfrey scored eight of Bowdoin's 12 points in the final ten minutes to put the game away.

- Sydney Jones led a balanced Bowdoin attack with 16 points to go with five rebounds.
- Callie Godfrey had 14 points, 12 rebounds and four blocks for the Polar Bears while Carly Davey had 15 points and four assists.
- Jai Duval led a 28-point effort from the Bowdoin bench with ten points, including a pair of three-pointers.
- Bowdoin finished at 49% shooting for the game and held Chicago to 32% from the field.
