Women's Hockey Topples Previously Undefeated Colby

BRUNSWICK, Maine – The Bowdoin women's ice hockey team handed Colby its first loss of the season in a 3-1 Saturday evening NESCAC matchup.
 
The Polar Bears are 3-3-0 and 2-2-0 in conference play. The Mules are 3-1-0 (1-1-0 NESCAC).
 
Game Highlights
  • The Polar Bears nearly scored coming off their first penalty kill of the game as Maddie Montanaro came out of the box, received the puck, and skated into the zone for a breakaway that was stopped at the right post.
  • The Mules outshot the Polar Bears 13-3 and left for intermission leading 1-0. Jo Tattersall fired a shot from the right point that Sophia Kennedy flicked to Beth Sinson in front of the crease. Sinson finished off the play to go ahead.
  • Bowdoin scored nine seconds into the power play to tie the game at 11:42 in the second. Jackie Miller won the puck off the right boards and kicked the puck to Charlee Frankenfeld. Frankenfeld skated into the slot and dished left to Anyi Sun. Sun, on the left dot, put the puck in the net.
  • The Polar Bears kept rolling with a second goal 19 seconds later. Gia Massari worked the play down the right side and passed to Luna Lu heading toward the near post. Lu went post-to-post and tucked the puck away on the left.
  • Sun set up Bowdoin's third and final goal midway through the third. Sun circled the offensive zone and backhanded a centering pass to Ela DiMagno in the slot for one-timer.
 
By the Numbers
  • First-year goalie Sarah Peterson earned the win with 34 saves.
  • Grace Caligiuri made eight saves.
  • Bowdoin was 1-for-2 on the power play.
  • Colby went 0-for-3 on the power play.
