Women's Hoops Posts Comeback Win at St. Joseph's

STANDISH, Maine – The Bowdoin College women's basketball team rallied from a 14-point halftime deficit to dominate the second half of a 72-61 victory at St. Joseph's College on Wednesday evening. The Polar Bears improve to 4-1 on the season while the Monks fall to 4-3.
 
Game Highlights
  • Bowdoin took a 16-13 lead after one quarter of play, but the Monks caught fire offensively in the second period to take a commanding lead at the break.
  • St. Joe's shot 50% from the field and went 10-13 from the free throw stripe, outscoring the Polar Bears 25-8 in the quarter to take a 38-24 lead at the half.
  • The Polar Bears locked down the Monks from there, and outscored the hosts 48-23 in the second half to put the game out of reach.
  • Bowdoin quickly got back into the contest by shooting 6-7 from three-point range in the third quarter and the teams entered the final period knotted at 50-50.
  • Callie Godfrey scored eight points in the fourth quarter for the Polar Bears, who pushed their lead to double digits by midway through the final frame, outscoring St. Joe's 22-11 to put the game on ice.

  • Bowdoin had four players in double figures, led by 14 off the bench from Maria Belardi and 12 points from Callie Godfrey.
  • Carly Davey and Megan Tan had 11 points each while Sydney Jones scored nine points and had a team-best ten rebounds.
  • Bowdoin shot 43% for the game and 38% from beyond the arc while holding the Monks to 36% and forcing 17 turnovers.
  • The Polar Bears scored 17 point off turnovers and overcame a sizeable free throw disadvantage as the Monks went 17-22 and were called for 13 fouls in the game compared to an 8-11 effort from the stripe for Bowdoin, who were tagged for 21 fouls.
