Men's Basketball Pulls Away Late to Defeat Thomas

BRUNSWICK, Maine – The Bowdoin College men's basketball team scored a season-high in points, pulling away late in a 91-77 win over Thomas College on Tuesday evening. The Polar Bears improve to 3-4 this season while the Terriers drop to 2-5.
 
Game Highlights
  • After falling behind early, Bowdoin led for the remainder of the opening half, using a late 13-3 run, capped by a Kevin Reeves lay-in, to take a 49-40 edge at the break.
  • The second half saw the teams exchange big runs, as the momentum swung between teams.
  • Thomas opened the period with a 9-1 surge, cutting the Bowdoin lead to a single point, and briefly took the lead, 54-53, with 15:30 to go.
  • The Polar Bears responded with a 9-0 surge, ending with an Afamdi Achufusi hoop-and-harm, to build an eight-point cushion, 62-54, with 13 minutes to go.
  • Thomas rallied again, using a 12-4 run to tie the game at 66-66 with 10:20 remaining in regulation.
  • Bowdoin took control from there, sparked by a Ben Chilson trifecta, the Polar Bears rolled off a 14-2 run that ended in a Kevin Reeves and-1 to take a double-digit lead with under four minutes to go, putting the contest out of reach.

  • Kevin Reeves posted his second career high in as many games, scoring 19 points and grabbing 11 rebounds with four blocks.
  • First-year Ben Chilson scored a career-best 12 points off the bench and grabbed five rebounds.
  • James McGowan pitched in 17 points while Michael Simonds had 14. Alex Halpern dished out eight assists.
  • Bowdoin finished at 41% shooting for the game, including 11 three-pointers.
  • The Polar Bears cashed in for 19 second chance points and 22 off turnovers in the win.
