Men's Basketball Uses Late Rally To Stun UMass Boston

BOSTON, Mass. – The Bowdoin College men's basketball team rallied from a double-digit deficit in the second half to stun UMass Boston on Sunday afternoon, 62-60. The Polar Bears improve to 2-4 while the Beacons fall to 1-5.
 
Game Highlights
  • The Beacons carried a 34-27 lead into the half as the Polar Bears shot 1-9 from three-point range in the opening twenty minutes.
  • UMass Boston continued to build on their lead, pushing it to as many as 12 points, 46-34, with 15:21 to go.
  • The Beacons still maintained a ten-point lead, 53-43, under ten minutes to play before Bowdoin began their comeback.
  • Andrew Szwez started it with a three-pointer at the 9:08 mark, sparking an 11-2 run that cut the lead to one point, 55-54, on a Matteo Cervone jumper with 4:34 to go.
  • Bowdoin was able to tie the game at 56 and then again at 58 before getting a defensive stop with two minutes left, leading to a Szwez layup at 1:53.
  • Another defensive stop led to a fastbreak lay-in by Kevin Reeves, giving Bowdoin a 62-58 edge with under a minute to go.
  • The Beacons cut the lead to 62-60 following a pair of free throws with 40 seconds to go and had a final chance to tie in the final moments, but a steal by Alex Halpern sealed the victory for Bowdoin.

  • Kevin Reeves scored a career-high 18 points and 14 rebounds o 7-10 shooting to lead the Polar Bears.
  • Andrew Szwez saw double digits with 12 points while seven other Polar Bears found the scoring column.
  • Bowdoin overcame 3-21 shooting from long distance to hold a dominant 49-33 edge in rebounding and hold the Beacons to 33% shooting for the game.
