Women's Hockey Opens Codfish Bowl with Win Against Suffolk

BOSTON, Mass. – The Bowdoin women's ice hockey team advanced to the Codfish Bowl Championship game with a 2-1 tournament opening win against Suffolk University.
 
The Polar Bears climb to 2-1-0 on the season and drop Suffolk to 2-7-0.
 
Game Highlights
  • The Polar Bears converted in the final seconds of the power play to take a 1-0 lead midway through the second. Kathryn Kester received the puck from Brett Stoddard on the left circle. Kester found Luna Lu on the back post for a wrister past a defender and goalie.
  • With less than three minutes to play in the period, Suffolk tied the game. Following a scrum in front of the net, Cassie Borowski tucked the puck inside the right post.'
  • Bowdoin's game-winner came at 13:08 in the final frame. Elsa Cassidy fired a shot from just inside the blue line on the left point. Brett Stoddard deflected the puck as it zipped through traffic and into the net.
 
By the Numbers
  • Bowdoin went 1-for-2 on the power play.
  • The Polar Bears kept Suffolk scoreless on the power play, the Rams went 0-for-4.
  • Lily O'Neil made 30 stops for Suffolk.
