Women's Ice Hockey Splits Season Opening Series at Williams

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. – The Bowdoin women's ice hockey team settled for a series split at Williams following a 5-2 loss on Saturday.
 
The Polar Bears and Ephs sport matching 1-1-0 (1-1-0 NESCAC) records.
 
Game Highlights
  • Jackie Miller won a faceoff on the right dot just under five minutes into the game and the puck kicked low to Elena DiMagno. DiMagno carried a couple feet toward net and put a shot off the chest of Erin Pye that popped over her shoulder and into goal.
  • The Ephs responded with a power play goal at 8:48. Robin Kitazono cleaned up a rebound on Celine Mayer's initial shot, putting the puck in
  • Williams took its first lead of the series 5:51 into the third period. Lucie Bond took a shot from the left and Sally Solotaroff-Webber made the initial save. Bond collected her own rebound and skated left to right along the edge of the crease and quickly put the puck past Solotaroff-Webber's skate.
  • Leah Rubinshteyn extended the lead with 2:57 remaining in the game. Rubinshteyn stole the puck at the top of the Williams zone and skated toward net for a breakaway one-on-goal.
  • Bowdoin pulled within one as Kathryn Kester fired a shot from the high slot into traffic. Gia Massari skated into the crowd and finished the play at the right post.
  • The Ephs iced the game with a pair of empty net goals in the final minute.

  • Bowdoin went 0-for-4 on the power play.
  • Williams was 2-for-3 on the power play and added a shorthanded goal.
  • Solotaroff-Webber made 37 stops.
