BRUNSWICK, Maine – The Whittier College women's basketball team held off a late Bowdoin rally to win the 2023 Coastal Classic on Saturday at Morrell Gymnasium. The Polar Bears drop their first game of the year and fall to 3-1. The Poets improve to 3-1 with the win.
 
Game Highlights

• Whittier outscored Bowdoin 35-28 in the second half to pull away for the 61-57 win.
• Lulu Salloom was named Classic MVP with a 21-point, ten-rebound performance for the Poets, who ended at 42% shooting for the game.
• Bowdoin shot only 34% and committed 20 turnovers in the loss.
• Carly Davey was named to the All-Classic team for Bowdoin, scoring seven points with nine rebounds, seven assists and four steals against Whittier.
• Sydney Jones led Bowdoin with 18 points while Maria Belardi added 11.
• Classic MVP: Lulu Salloom (Whittier); All-Classic Team: Rhe Nae Leach (Whittier), Carly Davey (Bowdoin), Kylie Grassi (Bridgewater), and Tara Flanders (Southern Maine)
