Women's Hockey Opens Season with 3-2 Win at Williams

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. – The Bowdoin women's ice hockey team opened the 2023-24 season with a 3-2 win at Williams.

The Polar Bears (1-0-0, 1-0-0 NESCAC) open the year with a win against Williams (0-1-0, 0-1-0 NESCAC) for the second year in a row.

Game Highlights
  • Gia Massari scored the first goal of the season for Bowdoin with 6:09 remaining in the opening period. Luna Lu and Kathryn Kester both tallied points with assists on the goal. Lu skated down along Massari's right side and passed center for a deflection off the blade of the junior's stick.
  • Williams answered less than a minute later. Claire Murphy put the puck just off the underside of the crossbar from beyond the crease.
  • Bowdoin went into the first intermission with a 2-1 lead as Massari tallied her second of the game with 15 seconds remaining in the period. Kester teed up a shot from the left point and Massari again deflected the puck, this time up and over the shoulder of Erin Pye.
  • Williams tied the game again halfway through the second period. Jill Parsons earned a one-on-one with a Bowdoin defender and wristed a top shelf shot to make it 2-2.
  • Bella Mele secured the Polar Bears' season-opening win with a solo effort with just over five minutes remaining in the third. Mele unleashed a wrist shot from the left side to just inside the near post.
