Women's Basketball Holds Off Bridgewater in Coastal Classic Opener

BRUNSWICK, Maine – The Bowdoin College women's basketball team earned its third straight double-digit win to start the season, defeating Bridgewater State University on the opening day of the Coastal Classic Friday night at Morrell Gymnasium.
 
The Polar Bears move to 3-0 on the season while the Bears fall to 0-2.
 
Game Highlights
  • Bowdoin scored the first six points of the game and never trailed, taking a 17-11 lead, spurred by five points from Megan Tan.
  • The Polar Bears took control in the second quarter, holding Bridgewater to just five points and getting eight points from Carly Davey to take a commanding 33-16 lead at the break.
  • Bridgewater chipped away, outscoring Bowdoin 17-11 in the third, and cut the eight points, 47-39, with 4:30 to go.
  • Bowdoin answered with the game's decisive sequence, as a nice feed from Charlotte Sweet led to a Callie Godfrey layup, immediately followed by a steal and three-pointer by Carly Davey to push the lead back to 13 points, 52-39, with 3:40 to go.

  • Carly Davey scored a career-high 18 points while Callie Godfrey added 14 points for the Polar Bears.
  • Sydney Jones finished with nine points and three assists while Jess Giorgio added a team-high ten rebounds.
  • Bowdoin shot 37% from the field, and connected on just three three-pointers on the night, but stifled Bridgewater State defensively, forcing 28 turnovers and scoring 19 points off turnovers in the win.
