Men's Ice Hockey Drops 3-2 Season Opener to Williams in Overtime

BRUNSWICK, Maine – The Bowdoin men's ice hockey team fell in overtime, 3-2, to Williams College in a rematch of last year's conference final.

The Polar Bears begin the year 0-1-0 (0-1-0 NESCAC) as the Ephs are 1-0-0 (1-0-0 NESCAC).

Game Highlights
  • Seconds after the first penalty play of the game expired, Bowdoin scored its first goal of the year. Nate Clark set up the play at the top of the zone. Clark passed to Jesse Lycan on the left side who found Patrick Callahan in front of goal. Callahan worked against a defender and beat Cal Sandquist.
  • Bowdoin came out in the second period and scored 4:18 into the frame. PJ Neal stripped the puck off a Williams player at center ice and fed Justin Wright before the blue line. Wright skated into a one-on-goal and cleanly converted with a wrister to the top corner.
  • Williams began to rally and cut the lead to 2-1 midway through the period. Jared Lambright put the puck toward net from the left side. Alex Kozic couldn't cover the puck and instead, the puck bobbled out where Jack Sabre was able to bury it.
  • With 1:50 remaining in the period, Williams tied the game. Conner Fitzpatrick took a shot coming down the right and Kozic's rebound kicked left for an easy put-back by Owen Stadheim.
  • Kozic made a pair of quick key saves in overtime but Jonah Gold found the back of the net at 3:09 to secure the win for Williams.
