Women's Hoops Cruises in Second Half of Road Win at Maine Maritime

CASTINE, Maine – The Bowdoin College women's basketball team -built a big third quarter lead and cruised to a 57-47 win at Maine Maritime on Tuesday night. The Polar Bears improve to 2-0 on the season while the Mariners fall to 2-1 on the year.
 
Game Highlights
  • The Polar Bears never trailed after the opening moments, jumping to a 14-8 lead late in the first quarter and extending it to double digits early in the second.
  • Bowdoin's stifling defense held MMA in check, as Bowdoin carried a ten point lead, 29-19, into the break.
  • The Polar Bears took command in the third quarter, pushing the lead to as many as 17 points, following a Carly Davey layup with 1:16 to go in the period.
  • A late flurry by MMA trimmed the final margin to ten points, but the Mariners never cut the lead down to single digits in the final ten minutes of the contest.

  • Bowdoin's defense held the Mariners to 35% shooting for the game while the Polar Bears connected on 42%.
  • Megan Tan scored a game-high 17 points with five rebounds while Jess Giorgio added 13.
  • Despite being in command throughout the second half, MMA was able to stay within striking distance as the Polar Bears connected on just 2-12 from the free throw line.
  • Bowdoin took advantage of 15 points off turnovers in the win and got a balanced attack that featured eight different players in the scoring column.
