Women's Basketball Tames Pride in Dominant Season-Opening Win

BRUNSWICK, Maine – The Bowdoin College women's basketball team used red-hot first half shooting to deliver a 73-46 blowout win over Springfield in its season opener on Saturday at Morrell Gymnasium. Bowdoin stands at 1-0 while Springfield falls to 1-1.
 
Game Highlights
  • The Polar Bears came out firing, jumping to an 18-5 lead in the first six minutes.
  • Bowdoin connected on 57% of its shots in the opening quarter and then improved to 64% in the second, connecting on 5-6 from long range in the second stanza to take a commanding 45-24 lead at the break.
  • Sydney Jones led Bowdoin with 13 points at the break, but the Polar Bears spread the scoring around, as seven different players scored in the opening half.
  • The Polar Bears cruised in the second half, extending the lead to as many as 35 points en route to the win.

  • Callie Godfrey led Bowdoin with 17 points while also collecting seven rebounds in the win.
  • Sydney Jones finished with 15 and seven assists while Maria Belardi pitched in 13 points, including a trio of three-pointers.
  • Bowdoin finished at 56% shooting for the game while holding the Pride to 27% and forcing 16 turnovers.
  • The Polar Bears scored 24 points off turnovers and owned a 33-28 edge on the glass.
