BRUNSWICK, Maine – The Bowdoin women's soccer team suffered a 1-0 loss to Amherst on Sunday afternoon.
The Polar Bears (6-3-2, 3-2-1 NESCAC) and Mammoths (9-1-1, 6-1-1 NESCAC) played a scoreless half of soccer to begin the day.
Game Highlights
- The Mammoths were all over the Bowdoin defense throughout the game, but the back line and Charlotte Iannone stood their ground. Jessica Lomo nearly scored in the 31st minute with a breakaway shot that deflected off the right post and past the hands of a diving Iannone.
- In the 38th minute, Liza Katz heeled a volley out of the air from feet in front of the goal face. Iannone made a split second diving save to her right to deny the deflected ball and keep the game tied at 0-0.
- Amherst finally broke through ten minutes into the second half. Carter Hollingsworth take advantage of a ball that deflected out of the box on a corner kick. From 15 feed beyond the line, Hollingsworth booted a shot that curled just under the crossbar and over the outstretched hands of Iannone.
- Abby Schwartz pestered the Bowdoin defense throughout the remainder of the game. Schwartz put a header towards the crossbar that Iannone snagged out of the air and watched another shot hit crossbar.

- Amherst held a 9-1 edge in shots on goal.
- The Mammoths earned a 5-2 corner kick advantage.
