Polar Bears Cruise To 6-0 Victory Against UMF

BRUNSWICK, Maine – The Bowdoin field hockey team scored five first quarter goals en route to a 6-0 midweek shutout against the University of Maine-Farmington.
 
The Polar Bears climb to 7-2 on the season as the Beavers drop to 1-9.
 
Game Highlights
  • Caroline Higgins put the Polar Bears on the board just 33 seconds into play. Higgins scored again two minutes later, finishing off a feed from Maya Malenfant in front of the net.
  • Sage Patel scored her first career goal on a penalty corner at 4:33. Higgins inserted to the top of the circle for a Malenfant stick stop and Patel drove into the net.
  • Bowdoin scored two more goals in the last five minutes of the first quarter to take a 5-0 lead. Sophia Rosati added one and Emily Ferguson finished off a feed from Olivia Cunningham a minute later.
  • Cunningham scored the game's final goal with 8:46 remaining in the fourth.
 
By the Numbers
  • The Beavers had a pair of defensive saves from Paris Howes and Emma Willey.
  • Ella Grant made five saves for UMF.
  • Julia Arsenault started the game and played the first quarter. Lauren O'Donald saw the majority of the playing time in net and made one save in the final quarter.
  • Bowdoin outshot the Beavers 20-1 with a 13-1 edge in shots on goal.
  • Bowdoin earned 11 penalty corners, including nine in the first quarter.
