BRUNSWICK, Maine – Sean Traynor scored the game's only goal in the 52
nd minute to lift the Tufts University men's soccer team to a 1-0 win over Bowdoin on Tuesday night at Pickard Field. The teams will play each other again on Saturday in the NESCAC Quarterfinals in Medford, Mass., as Tufts (10-2-3, 6-2-2) finishes as the league's fourth seed and Bowdoin (9-2-4, 5-2-3) ends as the fifth seed.
Match Highlights
- A physical first half saw Bowdoin out-shoot Tufts 9-6 and have the best chance of the period, as a loose ball deflected off a Jumbo defender and to the feet or Ronaldo Cabral on the right side of the net with 13 minutes left in the stanza. Cabral's shot sailed just right of the post, keeping the game scoreless into halftime.
- Tufts took the lead in the with 38 minutes left in the contest on a transition goal. Mikey Brady carried down the right wing and fired a shot that slipped to the left of Bowdoin goaltender Alex Ainsworth and ricocheted off the post. Sean Traynor pounced on the rebound to give the visitors the 1-0 edge.
- Bowdoin mounted a furious attempt at a comeback and outshot Tufts 12-2 over the final 45 minutes, including several great chances. The Polar Bears couldn't find the equalizer, however, as Tufts hung on to win.

- Bowdoin held a 21-8 edge in shots and 10-3 advantage in corner kicks in the game. Tufts had 17 fouls and two yellow cards to Bowdoin's nine fouls in the match.
- Alex Ainsworth made two saves for the Polar Bears while Nikola Antic stopped five shots for the Jumbos.
