MEDFORD, Mass. – The Bowdoin College men's soccer team rallied valiantly in the second half but came up just short in a 2-1 NESCAC Quarterfinal loss at Tufts on Saturday afternoon. The Polar Bears (9-3-4, 5-2-3) will await to hear their NCAA Tournament fate until Monday, November 6. The Jumbos (11-2-3, 6-2-2 NESCAC) advance to the NESCAC semifinals next weekend in Middlebury, Vt.
Game Highlights
- Felipe Rueda Duran had the first substantive opportunity of the game a little over 15 minutes into action. Rueda Duran had a takeaway in the box and cut around a defender along the outside right edge. The sophomore booted a right footed shot to the near post that was turned away.
- Tufts had a promising opportunity three minutes later following a foul just feet outside the top of the box. Daniel Yanez lined up the free kick and put it to the left of the Bowdoin wall. Alex Ainsworth made a diving save to his right to keep the game scoreless.
- The Jumbos scored the game's first goal to take the lead in the 31st minute. Mason Shultz carried down the left side and sent a low cross across the goal to Henry Perkins open in the center. Perkins put the ball low in the left corner.
- Tufts carried that lead into the second half, where they doubled their lead following a turnover at midfield. Ethan Feigin fed Daniel Yanez for the goal and a 2-0 lead with just over 30 minutes to go.
- Bowdoin wouldn't go away, and Rueda Duran finally cashed in with 16:14 to go, going top left on a free kick from 22 yards out to make it 2-1.
- The Polar Bears had three shots over the next five minutes as they continued to pressure the goal, but neither could find the net as Tufts clung to victory.

- Tufts earns their second one-goal win in five days against the Polar Bears, following a 1-0 win in Brunswick on Tuesday night. All three Bowdoin losses this year have been by a single goal, one to Amherst and the two to Tufts.
- Also for the second straight game, Bowdoin out-shot Tufts, holding an 11-9 advantage while corner kicks were 5-5.
- Alex Ainsworth made two saves for Bowdoin while Nikola Antic stopped three shots for Tufts.
- Tufts had three yellow cards in the contest while Bowdoin was credited with none.
