Field Hockey Drops Overtime Season Finale to Tufts

BRUNSWICK, Maine – The Bowdoin field hockey team suffered its second overtime loss in as many games in a 2-1 regular season finale against Tufts.
 
The Polar Bears conclude the regular season with a 10-5 (5-5 NESCAC). The Jumbos are 11-4 (8-2 NESCAC). Bowdoin has earned the sixth seed in the conference tournament and will head to Lewiston to play Bates in the quarterfinals on Saturday. 
 
Game Highlights
  • Bowdoin took the 1-0 lead on a penalty corner in the 26th minute of action. Caroline Higgins inserted the ball to Georgie Coetzer who blasted a shot from the top. The ball ripped through traffic and into the goal.
  • Tufts found an equalizer two minutes into the fourth quarter. Gabby Sousa received the slip pass on the right side of the circle and sent the ball toward stroke. Hannah Biccard reacted quickly and put a reverse sweep past the defense.
  • Nearly six minutes into the first overtime period, Tufts found the game-winner. Kayleigh McDonald had the ball at the top of the circle and sent a pass to Andrea DelGiudice. DelGiudice turned a put a shot straight down the middle and in the cage.
By the Numbers
  • Tufts held a 7-4 edge in shots and 6-3 shots on goal advantage.
  • Bowdoin allowed six penalty corners and earned two.
  • Julia Arsenault made three saves. Coetzer recorded a defensive save.
  • Lydia Eastburn made a pair of stops.
