Field Hockey Sees Season End in Double Overtime at Bates

LEWISTON, Maine – The Bowdoin field hockey team saw its season come to an end in a 2-1 double overtime NESCAC quarterfinal loss at Bates on Tuesday evening.
 
The Polar Bears (10-6) earned the #6 seed for the conference tournament and fell to the #3 seeded Bobcats (12-4).
 
Game Highlights
  • After a scoreless first half of play, the Bobcats scored nearly nine minutes into the third quarter. Bates made quick work in transition and broke down the field towards goal. Kate McManaman received the ball on the top left side of the circle and sent a pass to the far post. Ella Blum put the feed away on the far side.
  • Bowdoin found an equalizer just 26 seconds into the fourth quarter. Maddie Mrva swept the ball in from a couple yards beyond the circle. Caroline Higgins deflected the ball into the net from the stroke line.
  • Bowdoin successfully defended a penalty corner in the first overtime and earned one of its own. Faith Jennings took a slip pass to the right and put a shot just wide of the post.
  • Two minutes into the second overtime, Julia Arsenault made a diving save on a shot from the top of the circle.
  • Bates won the game in the 77th minute following a first shot and slide tackle, allowing Maria Femia to finish off the play.
 
By the Numbers
  • The Bobcats held a 10-8 edge in shots and 4-2 shots on goal advantage.
  • Bowdoin earned five offensive corners and allowed four.
  • Arsenault ended the day with two saves.
  • Kaili Jacobsen stopped one shot.
