Women's Soccer Blows Past Babson

BRUNSWICK, Maine – The Bowdoin women's soccer team exploded for five goals against regional opponent Babson on Sunday afternoon for a 5-2 victory.

The Polar Bears (5-2-2) and Beavers (4-3-2) came into the matchup with identical records.

Game Highlights
  • Greta Farkas became the team's first multi-goal scorer of the season in the 16th minute of the game. Kyra Hacker lined up a corner kick from the left side and put the ball through traffic in the box. Farkas connected with the feed from the far right post and put a shot back across to the far low corner.
  • The Beavers evened the game ten minutes later. Olivia Maltbie put the ball into the box and Jordyn Ferrantino toed the ball up and over the head of Charlotte Iannone.
  • Hashimoto took a leading pass from Stephanie Christianson and deked around the charging goalie to put away a clean look and give Bowdoin a 2-1 lead.
  • With nine minutes remaining in the frame, Emma Mumby nearly tied the game as a shot hit the crossbar and bounced over the net.
  • Bowdoin extended its lead to 3-1 before the end of the half. Greta Farkas sent a long ball up and the goalie came out to make the play. Rylie McLaren collected the feed and put it away in the top left corner.
  • Bowdoin's goal in the 81st minute started back at midfield as Mary Rainey worked to keep the ball in play along the near sideline. Rainey spun around a defender and worked into the Babson zone, finally executing a give-and-go sequence with Morgan Smiley. Smiley finished the play with a ball to the right corner.
  • Laila Nickelson got in on the scoring to make it 5-1 in the 85th minute. The ball got behind the defensive line and Nickelson put on a burst of speed to beat a defender to the ball and earn a one-on-goal.
  • With under a minute to play, Babson got back one goal as Natalie Knauf lofted a feed from the right side and Ferrantino went up for a grazing header into the net.

By the Numbers
  • The five goal game was the most offensive output for the Polar Bears since a 3-1 win at Middlebury last season. The three goal margin of victory was the largest for the program since an 8-0 win over Maine Maritime in 2022.
  • Bowdoin held a 16-9 edge in shots and 11-6 shots on goal advantage.
  • Bowdoin took six corner kicks and allowed four.
