Turnovers Sink Polar Bears in Men's Basketball Loss to Trinity

BRUNSWICK, Maine – The Bowdoin College men's basketball team dropped a 73-58 decision to Trinity on Saturday at Morrell Gymnasium. The Bantams improve to 13-1 (2-0 NESCAC) while the Polar Bears slide to 6-8 (0-2 NESCAC).
 
Game Highlights
  • The Polar Bears led by as many as ten points midway through the opening half thanks to seven early points from Michael Simonds.
  • The Bantams chipped away and closed the half on a 13-4 run, capped by a Sean Macarchuk three-pointer in the final moments that gave the visitors a 31-29 lead at the break.
  • Trinity came out firing in the second half, and used a 16-0 run to take a commanding 50-32 lead wit 13 minutes to go.
  •  Bowdoin could get no closer than ten points in the remainder of the contest and the Bantams came away with the win.
By The Numbers
  • The teams had similar shooting percentages on the day (Bowdoin 43%, Trinity 42%) and were deadlocked 38-38 in rebounding.
  • However, the Bantams knocked down nine three-pointers compared to four for Bowdoin and the Polar Bears also committed 22 turnovers in the loss.
  • Afamdi Achufusi led Bowdoin with 13 points in the loss to go with five boards. James McGowan finished with 12.
  • Kevin Reeves led all players with ten rebounds to go with seven points.
  • Trinity was paced by 17 points from Henry Vetter.
