Women's Hockey Begins New Year With 5-2 Win Over Wildcats

BRUNSWICK, Maine – The Bowdoin women's ice hockey team returned to the ice with a 5-2 home win over visiting Johnson & Wales on Monday evening.
 
The Polar Bears climb above .500 with a 5-4-0 record. The Wildcats are still in search of their first win at 0-7-2.
 
Game Highlights
  • Bowdoin scored just 35 seconds into the game to jump out to a 1-0 lead. Emma Merrill fired a shot from the left point that was turned away, but the rebound kicked to Zoe Wilson on the near post. Wilson stuffed the rebound in for the game's first.
  • After a pair of breakaway shots that rang off the post, Johnson & Wales evened the score midway through the period. Harmony Chicoose waited in front of the crease and took a feed from Brooke Dineen. Chicoose shifted slightly left and found net.
  • Peyton Mulhern regained the lead for the Polar Bears on the power play with 3:28 remaining. Mulhern controlled the puck on the left point and skated towards net before wristing a shot past Anna Maulson.
  • Bowdoin pushed its lead to 3-1 at 2:29 in the second. Allie Britt skated right to left from the high side of the faceoff circle and wristed a shot on the move.
  • Kaylin Garner pulled the Wildcats within one at 8:03. Garner deked left before dragging right and putting the puck top shelf.
  • Bowdoin added two insurance goals in the third to push the score to 5-2. Brett Stoddard tallied the first and Anyi Sun capped the game with a cleaned-up rebound with 4:38 remaining in the game.
 
By the Numbers
  • Bowdoin went 1-for-2 on the power play, while staying out of the penalty box.
  • Maulson made 34 stops, including 15 in the final frame.
  • Dani Marquez made 8 saves for the win.
