Kay Reaches 1,000-Point Milestone, Sparks Women's Hoops to Win Over Husson

BRUNSWICK, Maine – Bowdoin's Sela Kay became the 19th player in program history to reach the 1,000-point plateau as the Polar Bear women's basketball team pulled away from Husson in the second half of an 80-76 win on Wednesday night in Morrell Gymnasium. The Polar Bears improve to 12-6 while the Eagles fall to 11-5.
 
Game Highlights
  • The teams traded the lead in a back-and-forth opening half that saw the teams combine to shoot over 50% from the field.
  • Down late in the second quarter, Sydney Jones hit a game-tying three-pointer at the buzzer to deadlock the score at 39-39 at the break.
  • After Husson grabbed a four-point lead immediately out of intermission, Kay propelled the Polar Bears to the lead with a 12-point outburst in the period, knocking down four three-pointers to give Bowdoin a 62-54 lead.
  • The Polar Bears pushed their lead to double digits in the fourth quarter and Kay made history at the 6:35 mark, knocking down a baseline three-pointer to surpass the 1,000 point barrier.
  • Bowdoin was in control the rest of the way, leading by as many as 13 points before a flurry in the final minute of play, including a long three-pointer at the final horn, trimmed the final margin to four points, 80-76.

  • Kay finished with a game-high 27 points, including six three-pointers, in the win.
  • Sydney Jones added 15 points and five assists while Carly Davey had 12 points and Annie Boasberg nine.
  • Bowdoin hit 12 trifectas as a team, compared to six for Husson.
  • The Polar Bears finished at 45% shooting for the game and forced 22 Husson turnovers, which they converted into 38 crucial points.
