Men's Basketball Returns to Win Column With Road Win at Farmington

FARMINGTON, Maine - The Bowdoin College men's basketball team got back in the win column in an 86-77 victory at Maine-Farmington on Wednesday evening. The Polar Bears improve to 7-10 on the year while the Beavers fall to 9-7.

Game Highlights
  • Sparked by 12 points from James McGowan and 11 from Xander Werkman, the Polar Bears took a 47-41 lead into the break.
  • Tied at 39 apiece late in the period, Bowdoin outscored the Beavers 8-1 over the final 2:16, including a buzzer-beating three-pointer from Michael Simonds.
  • Alex Halpern hit a three-pointer immediately out of the break as Bowdoin maintained a multiple-possession lead throughout the second half.
  • The Polar Bears led by as many as 15 and UMF could never come within a single possession the entire period, despite drawing within four points with two minutes to go, which Bowdoin answered with a quick 7-0 run to put the game on ice. 
By The Numbers
  • Michael Simonds scored 13 of his team-high 18 points in the second half while Afamdi Achufusi posted a double-double with ten points and ten rebounds. 
  • James McGowan had 17 points, Xander Werkman had 15 and Alex Halpern had 13 in the win.
  • Bowdoin finished at 50% shooting for the game and held Husson to 36% while grabbing a 45-38 edge on the glass. 
  • The Polar Bears avenge a loss last winter to the Beavers in Brunswick, which snapped a seven-game Bowdoin winning streak in the series.
