Williams Pulls Away Late to Knock Off Men's Basketball

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. - The Williams College men's basketball pulled away late to defeat Bowdoin, 79-64, on Saturday afternoon. The Polar Bears fall to 6-10 (0-4 NESCAC) while the Ephs improve to 15-1 (3-1 NESCAC) on the year.

Game Highlights
  • The Polar Bears played an outstanding first half against sixth-ranked Ephs, and carried a 37-33 lead into halftime. 
  • James McGowan hit five three-pointers and had 19 points in the opening stanza as the Polar Bears clung to the four-point lead at the break. 
  • Williams regained the lead early in the second half but couldn't put the scrappy Polar Bears away. 
  • Bowdoin closed to within four points following a McGowan lay-up, 63-59, with 6:30 remaining in the contest. 
  • Williams closed the game on a 16-5 run to clinch the contest, connecting on 14-17 from the free throw line in the second half to put it away. 
By The Numbers
  • McGowan led Bowdoin with 23 points on the day to go with seven rebounds. 
  • Michael Simonds (11) and Afamdi Achufusi (10) also saw double digits for Bowdoin. 
  • The Polar Bears finished at 43% shooting for the game while Williams went for 55% from the field.
  • The Ephs were led by 17 points from Nate Karren.
