Middlebury Slips Past Field Hockey on Saturday Afternoon

BRUNSWICK, Maine – The Bowdoin field hockey team suffered a 4-0 setback to top-ranked Middlebury on Saturday afternoon.
 
The Panthers remain perfect with a 6-0 (3-0 NESCAC) record, while the Polar Bears drop to 4-2 (1-2 NESCAC).
 
Game Highlights
  • Middlebury took an early lead, successfully converting on a penalty corner five minutes into play. Amy Griffin slipped a pass to Meg Shelburne who blasted a shot into the net.
  • The remainder of the first half remained scoreless between the two sides. Julia Arsenault kept the game close with a slide tackle on a Middlebury forward who was running in on a breakaway. Arsenault stripped the ball and neutralized the attack seven yards out from the goal line.
  • Five minutes into the third quarter, Griffin launched a reverse chip from the top of the circle making it 2-0.
  • The Panthers added another goal in the quarter. This time Caroline Segal found Audrey Lazar for a quick pass and shoot. Griffin added an assisted goal by Emily Stone in the fourth quarter.
