Polar Bears Corral Camels in Four-Set Friday Volleyball Win

BRUNSWICK, Maine – The Bowdoin College volleyball team rebounded from its first NESCAC loss of the season to defeat Connecticut College, 3-1, on Friday evening in Morrell Gymnasium. The Polar Bears move to 4-3 (2-1 NESCAC) while the Camels fall to 4=2 (1-2 NESCAC).
 
Match Highlights
  • Bowdoin took the win by set scores of 27-25, 25-9, 23-25, 25-13
  • The Polar Bears trailed the Camels 25-24 in the opening set as the squads traded the lead numerous times over the homestretch. But a kill by Lauren Lange sparked a 3-0 run to close the set, capped by a Jenna Robbins kill to seal a 27-25 win.
  • Bowdoin dominated the second set, sprinting to a 14-4 lead and never looking back as consecutive kills from Robbins and Mary John finished off the set, 25-9.
  • Connecticut College rebounded in the third set to close the gap to 2-1, holding off a late Bowdoin run and getting a service ace from Emma Wheeler to clinch a 25-23 win.
  • Bowdoin put all thoughts of a comeback to rest with an authoritative win in the fourth, breaking open a close set with a 10-2 surge to take an 18-8 lead en route to a 25-13 triumph.
By The Numbers
  • Bowdoin featured its most balanced attack of the season with three players in double digit kills, led by 16 from Robbins, 15 from Sarah Evans and 13 from Lauren Lange.
  • Robbins added three aces while Maya White recorded a season-high 45 digs. Ella Haugen dished out 47 assists for the Polar Bears.
  • Riley Lord finished with nine kills in the loss for Conn. College.

  • Bowdoin will host a tri-match against Brandeis (12:00 p.m.) and Maine Maritime (5:00 p.m.) tomorrow with those schools battling each other in a neutral-site match at 3:00 p.m.
