Field Hockey Blows Past Blue on Wednesday Evening

WELLESLEY, Mass. – The Bowdoin field hockey team captured a 3-0 road victory at Wellesley on Wednesday evening.

The Polar Bears (4-1) have not lost to the Blue (3-4) in their last 19 meetings, including an NCAA tournament matchup in 2015.

Game Highlights
  • Bowdoin wasted little time in getting on the board. Jane Shanahan got the Polar Bears started with a solo effort goal from a scrum around the stroke line.
  • With two minutes remaining in the first quarter, Caroline Higgins stripped the ball off a defender on the right side of the circle and made a short two yard pass to Sophia Rosati. Rosati controlled the pass and shot in one motion to make it 2-0.
  • In the final five minutes of the opening half, Faith Jennings raced past a defender along the left wing and curled along the top of the circle. Jennings swept a shot towards goal that snuck under the stick of a diving goalie.

By the Numbers
  • Bowdoin did not allow a shot in 60 minutes of action and fired off 16 of their own.
  • Bowdoin took just three penalty corners, but never fouled in the defensive circle.
  • Julia Arsenault earned the shutout victory.
  • Kyra Deehr-Lewis made five saves in net for the Blue.
