NEW LONDON, Conn. – The Bowdoin men's soccer team defeated the top-ranked team in the country in a 1-0 victory at Connecticut College on Saturday afternoon.
The Polar Bears remain perfect and climb to 4-0-0 (2-0-0 NESCAC) for the first time since 2007, while handing the previously undefeated reigning national champions their first loss since the NESCAC Championship last season (2-1-1, 0-1-1 NESCAC).
Game Highlights
- The Camels owned a 4-2 edge in shots during the first 45 minutes of play.
- Bowdoin broke through with under 15 minutes remaining the game to take a late 1-0 lead. Mateo Pacelli broke loose on the right wing and dribbled into the box, drawing the defense. Everett Horch stood unmarked on the left side. Pacelli toed a perfectly-placed pass to Horch, who buried it into the lower left corner.
- The Polar Bears held off a furious late flurry by the Camels, including a free kick and a corner kick with under 45 seconds remaining, which was headed away by Julian Juantorena.
By the Numbers
- The Camels held a 12-6 edge in shots, but Bowdoin held a 4-3 edge in shots on goal.
- Michael Webber made three saves to preserve the shutout.
- Sam Maidenberg made three saves for the Camels.
