Field Hockey Returns to Win Column with Win at USM

GORHAM, Maine – The Bowdoin field hockey team returned to the win column with a 6-1 non-conference victory at the University of Southern Maine on Thursday evening.
 
The Polar Bears climb to 2-1 and drop the Huskies to 2-3.
 
Game Highlights
  • Bowdoin went ahead 2-0 with a pair of goals in the opening quarter. Faith Jennings got the Polar Bears started with a goal off a rebound in the circle, followed by a Maya Malenfant solo effort.
  • Jennings made it 3-0 with 1:02 remaining in the second quarter, this time off a feed from Sophia Rosati.
  • The Polar Bears picked up where they left off to begin the third. Sophia Rutman redirected a centering pass from Malenfant to make it 4-0 2:48 into the third quarter.
  • Jennings added a solo effort midway through the frame, and Georgie Coetzer closed out the quarter with a successful corner.
  • Southern Maine spoiled the shutout with a goal with three minutes remaining in the game. Ginny Twitchell tracked down a loose ball in the circle and drove a shot past Delaney Bashaw.
 
By the Numbers
  • Julia Arsenault played the first three quarters and did not see a shot. Bashaw played the final 15 minutes and made one save.
  • Eleanor Folsom made ten stops for USM.
  • Bowdoin held a 28-6 edge in shots and 14-6 penalty corner advantage, with all six coming in the final quarter.
