FARMINGTON, Maine – The Bowdoin women's soccer team is off to a 3-0-0 record for the first time since 2014 following an 8-0 win at the University of Maine-Farmington on Sunday.
The Polar Bears have won all three of their games to begin the season and the Beavers are 1-3-0 on the year. In 2014, Bowdoin began the season with six straight wins including victories over Bates and UMF who were two of Bowdoin's three early competitors this year.
Game Highlights
- Bowdoin scored its first goal just 1:12 into the game. Rachael Peacock served the ball from the left side towards center. The ball bounced once before Morgan Smiley put a right footed shot to the far corner.
- In the 10th minute, the Beavers' goalie came to the top of the box to play a long through pass but couldn't quite control the ball. Samaya Bernardo collected the ball as it trickled away from the keeper and put it in an open net.
- Bernardo had a second goal, team's third, in the 27th minute. Kyra Hacker lined up a corner kick and Bernardo connected for an instep volley off the insert.
- With six minutes remaining in the first half, Ella Olcese booted a shot from seven yards beyond the box. Ocese's ball soared over the heads of UMF's defense and goalie before going top right corner.
- Bowdoin put away four more goals in the second half to run away with the 8-0 win.
- Lo Hoglin had a pair of strikes sandwiched between tallies from Stephanie Christianson and Becca Meyers.
By the Numbers
- Bowdoin did not allow a single shot or corner kick to the Beavers.
- The Polar Bears fired off 22 shots on goal and earned 15 corner kicks.
- Alex Arndt and Charlotte Iannone both saw time in net.
