Pair of First Half Goals Lift Women's Soccer Past Bates

LEWISTON, Maine – The Bowdoin women's soccer team opened the conference slate with a 2-1 victory over host Bates on Saturday afternoon.
 
The Polar Bears (2-0-0, 1-0-0) have not lost to the Bobcats (1-1-0, 0-1-0 NESCAC) since 2005 and have a 15-0-1 record against Bates since then.
 
Game Highlights
  • Bowdoin went ahead 1-0 in the 23rd minute. Shannon Gallagher passed up field to Morgan Smiley, with the ball glancing off a defensive player in the process. Smiley took the ball and put it in the back of Bates' net.
  • Greta Farkas doubled Bowdoin's lead with a successful penalty kick in the 38th minute.
  • Bowdoin surrendered a penalty kick goal in the second half, allowing Bates to make it 2-1.

  • Bowdoin held a 17-12 edge in shots and 6-1 corner kick advantage.
