Men's Lacrosse Comes Up Short in Bid For First NESCAC Title at Tufts

MEDFORD, Mass. – The Bowdoin College men's lacrosse team came up just short in its bid for a NESCAC Championship, falling to top-seeded Tufts 20-11 in the title match on Sunday afternoon.
 
The Polar Bears (16-2) are virtually assured a bid in the NCAA Tournament when selections are announced on Sunday evening at 9:00 p.m. on the NCAA website.
 
Game Highlights
  • Bowdoin's defense kept the Polar Bears in the hunt early, holding high-scoring Tufts to five goals over the first 23 minutes of the contest.
  • The Polar Bears struggled to get their offense on track, however, and trailed 3-1 after the first quarter and 6-4 with under five minutes to play in the first half.
  • Tufts scored the final three goals of the half to take an 8-4 lead at intermission and proceeded to pull away in the third, scoring 11 unanswered goals to put the contest out of reach
By The Numbers
  • With three goals and five assists, Bowdoin senior Donal Mullane broke the school's single-season points mark of 97 held by Tom Ryan '93 and became the first-ever Polar Bear to score 100 points in a season (105).
  • Will Byrne added four goals and two assists while Oliver Bernstein had a goal and an assist in the loss.
  • Robert Hobbs was peppered with shots all day, and played valiantly, making 22 saves for the Polar Bears.
