Men's Lacrosse Cruises Past Colorado College and Advances to NCAA Third Round

BRUNSWICK, Maine – The Bowdoin College men's lacrosse team rolled past Colorado College in the second round of the NCAA Division III Tournament, 23-8, on Saturday in the first-ever NCAA Tournament game at Whittier Field. The Polar Bears (17-2) advance to Sunday's Third Round against the winner of SUNY Cortland and St. Lawrence at 3:00 p.m.
 
Game Highlights
  • In a sensational individual performance, Bowdoin's Will Byrne tied the school record for goals in a game (8), and spurred a dominant first-quarter run by the Polar Bears. 
  • After a scoreless opening seven minutes, Colorado College got on the board at 6:58 of the first quarter on a score from Dylan Wells.
  • Bowdoin answered with a 5-0 run in a span of 2:59, with Byrne scoring four goals in the run.
  • The Polar Bears led 7-3 after the opening frame, but the Tigers scored a pair of early goals – from Jack Haim and Wells – to cut the lead to 7-5 at the 10:01 mark of the second quarter.
  • Bowdoin stymied all hopes of a comeback with another five-goal surge, keyed by two more goals from Byrne to extend the lead to 12-6 at the break.
  • The Polar Bears put on an offensive display in the third quarter, scoring eight goals to put the contest out of reach.
