Farmington Holds Off Bowdoin in Tuesday Non-Conference Baseball

BRUNSWICK, Maine – The University of Maine-Farmington baseball team scored five runs in the third inning to defeat Bowdoin, 5-1, in a non-conference game Tuesday afternoon at Pickard Field. The Beavers improve to 2-12 while the Polar Bears fall to 7-10.
 
Game Highlights
  • Farmington scored all the runs it would need with two outs in the third frame. With runners on second and third and two out, Danny Terhune ripped a two-run single to give UMF the lead. Two batters later, Ryan Sargent connected for a two-run double and Tyler Lambert followed with an RBI single to make it 5-0.
  • Bowdoin scraped together a rally in the fifth, as Gabe Peckler singled and advanced around the bases thanks to a pair of errors, finally coming home on a wild pitch to make it 5-1.
  • The Polar Bears left the bases loaded in the eighth in their best chance to rally.
By The Numbers
  • UMF's Troy Johnson tossed four strong innings, allowing one hit and four relievers combined to hold Bowdoin to no earned runs over the final five frames. Anthony Boyle's two innings of strong relief work earned him the victory.
  • Baker Olin got the start and was almost able to get out of the third inning, but finished at 2.2 frames of work, permitting four earned runs in the loss. Gavin Cann, C.J. Brito-Trinidad and Jake Olcott combined to shut out UMF over the final five innings.
  • Ryan Sargent went 3-4 with two RBI to lead Farmington
  • Bowdoin was paced by two hits from Gabe Peckler.

  • Bowdoin will open NESCAC play this weekend as they travel to Hartford to face Trinity in a three-game set beginning Friday at 3:00 p.m.
