Softball Flies Past Owls in Doubleheader Sweep

BRUNSWICK, Maine – The Bowdoin softball team cruised to a doubleheader sweep of visiting UMaine-Presque Isle on Sunday afternoon.
 
The Polar Bears (7-9) were playing their first home game of the season and picked up a 21-3 five inning game one win. The Owls (1-17) well 8-0 in six innings for game two.
 
Game One Highlights
  • UMPI plated a pair of runs in the first inning, but Bowdoin responded with four in the bottom half. Katryna Dukehart had an RBI single, while Caroline Sablone and Zoe Stilphen had two-run singles. Kiera Dent added an RBI double to center.
  • The Owls made it 4-3 in the top of the second, but that was the closest the game would be.
  • Shea Sullivan had an RBI single in the second and the Polar Bears strung together four doubles in the third off the bats of Sablone, Sydney Lang, Sullivan, and Stilphen. Alicia Ross rounded out the inning with an RBI single.
  • Lilly Armstrong plated the fourth innings first runs with a two-run triple to center. Ross had another RBI double and Kasey Cunningham and Dukehart both had run producing doubles.
  • Dent pitched four innings and allowed seven hits with three runs, while striking out one.
 
Game Two Highlights
  • Bowdoin went up 1-0 in the bottom of the first as Angelina Mayers doubled down the left field line to plate Armstrong.
  • With the bases loaded in the fourth, Sablone tripled to the right corner and gave Bowdoin a 4-0 lead. Sablone later scored on a wild pitch.
  • In the fifth, Sullivan and Ella Jones each drove in a run off a single to the outfield.
  • Mayers capped the game with a sacrifice fly into shallow right field.
  • Kyla Gary went 3-for-4 at the plate and Mayers was 2-for-3.
  • Sullivan allowed just two hits while pitching six innings.
