Baseball Cruises to Series-Opening Win Over Bates

BRUNSWICK, Maine - The Bowdoin College baseball team, behind a stellar pitching performance from Jason Bogdanos, cruised to a 6-1 win Friday over Bates in the opener of a three-game set between the Maine rivals. The Polar Bears improve to 14-16 (7-3 NESCAC) while the Bobcats fall to 6-24 (1-9 NESCAC).

Game Highlights
  • Bowdoin took an early lead with a two-run first inning. C.J. Brito-Trinidad ripped an RBI double to score Ben McKenzie and Gavin Cann followed with a run-scoring ground out to bring home Luke Chessie.
  • After Nick Merrill doubled home Robbie Sarmanian in the fourth inning, the Polar Bears added two more insurance runs in the fifth on RBI singles from Gavin Cann and Sarmanian to increase their lead to 5-0.
  • That was more than enough support for Bogdanos, who tossed a complete game, allowing just four hits and no earned runs in the win, while striking out five batters.
By The Numbers
  • C.J. Brito-Trinidad went 3-4 with two RBI and a run scored while Ben McKenzie went 2-5 for the Polar Bears.
  • Gavin Cann also reached base three times while Luke Chessie scored two runs.
