Baseball Stumbles in Monday Matchup at Southern Maine

GORHAM, Maine – The Bowdoin baseball team suffered a Monday night 7-3 loss to the University of Southern Maine.
 
The Polar Bears begin the week with a 13-16 record. The Huskies are 15-16 on the season.
 
Game Highlights
  • Bowdoin went ahead 1-0 with a leadoff homerun to left off the bat of Ben McKenzie.
  • USM got on the board in the bottom half of the inning, scoring on a wild pitch. The Huskies took the lead with a sacrifice fly to left.
  • Nick Merrill tied the game in the top of the second, also blasting a solo homer to left.
  • The tie held until the fourth inning when Southern Maine plated five runs to break the game open. The inning was punctuated by a three-run homer to center.
  • Bowdoin got one run back in the top of the seventh. CJ Brito-Trinidad sent a sacrifice fly to center that allowed Robbie McNamara to score. McNamara was the inning's leadoff batter and took first off a hit by pitch.
 
By the Numbers
  • McKenzie, Gabe Peckler, and Kevin Murray all went 2-for-4.
  • McKenzie and Peckler both recorded a stolen base.
  • Connor Cassady started the game and pitched 3.1 innings with three earned runs.
  • Bowdoin's pitching staff combined to allow six hits and seven strikeouts.
