Men's Lacrosse Stays Unbeaten, Rolls to High-Scoring Win at Conn

NEW LONDON, Conn. – For the first time in its 62-season history, the Bowdoin College men's lacrosse team improved to 14-0 to start a season following a 24-16 win at Connecticut College on Saturday afternoon. The historic win puts the seventh-ranked Polar Bears (14-0, 9-0 NESCAC) in position to play Tufts on Wednesday night in Medford with the top-seeding rights for the NESCAC Tournament at stake.

Game Highlights
  • A high-scoring first quarter saw the teams trade blows until a late Camel goal gave the hosts a slim 7-6 edge after one period of play.
  • Bowdoin gained its footing from there, posting a dominant second quarter thanks to five goals by Donal Mullane in a span of 9:54. The Polar Bears outscored the Camels 8-2 in the frame to take a commanding 14-9 lead at the break.
  • Bowdoin's offense kept on clicking in the second half, answering every surge by Connecticut College.
  • The Camels drew within four goals early in the third quarter, 15-11, but a quick 5-0 run by Bowdoin, keyed by goals from Oliver Bernstein, Zack Goorno and Sam Powell in a span of 57 seconds, put the contest out of reach.
By The Numbers
  • Just days following tying the school record of 11 points in a game, Donal Mullane scored six goals and dished out six assists for a school-record 12 points in the victory.
  • Mullane spearheaded a Bowdoin attack that saw 11 different players score, including four from Will Byrne, three from Jason Lach and two apiece from Ethan Barnard, Sam Powell and Zach Chandler.
  • Ethan Barnard won 26-36 on the faceoff dot while Pat White caused a team-high three turnovers.
  • Robert Hobbs finished with 14 saves in net for Bowdoin.
  • The Polar Bears have scored 20+ goals in three straight games for the first time since 1979.
Up Next
  • Bowdoin will play at Tufts on Wednesday evening at 7:00 p.m. with the winner claiming the top seed for the 2022 NESCAC Men's Lacrosse Tournament.
